| "As a post-colonial feminist located in a post-9/11 America, my artistic and curatorial practices necessarily intersect and are mutually constituted. My curatorial work has helped me to acknowledge and mediate my own complex location. In my art practice, my intent is to create authentic work that transcends my reflexive ethnic location yet encompasses the issues of identity and home that inform my work. In my curatorial work, I wish to develop a praxis that contests institutional hegemony and suggests alternative forms to practice culture and politics. | |||
| I believe that the story of contemporary American art is incomplete without understanding and conceptualizing its multi-diasporic and inter-diasporic nature. Therefore, I have structured a rigorous definition for the term ‘Transdiaspora’ and created an innovative and inclusive curatorial framework titled ‘Transdiasporic Art Practices’. This strategic framework is ideally suited for insertion into visual cultural production in America. | |||
| In my dual roles as a transdiasporic artist and curator I am constantly interrogating the abject body and site-specific spatiality. I have moved away from formalist systems of display and am employing non-traditional and site-specific installation strategies to realize the Transdiaspora concept. In my art practice I continue to engage with psychic borderlands and internal exile employing figurative devices. And in my curatorial practice, I continue to work transversally between multiple border zones.” | |||
